ACTILINK · Plasma Surface Activation

We wondered why results differ even with the same implant.

Now we wake up the material's surface
and build the conditions for bonding, from the start.

Seongmo Dental Clinic uses ACTILINK, which activates the surface of implant fixtures, bone graft material, membranes, abutments, and prosthetics with plasma energy right before treatment. Once the surface turns hydrophilic, blood and cells adhere closely instead of beading off, improving the conditions for osseointegration and bonding.

What is ACTILINK

Plasma surface activation —
what does this equipment actually do?

ACTILINK is a device that uses plasma energy right before treatment to remove surface contamination from treatment materials and increase their hydrophilicity. Seongmo Dental Clinic applies it to implants, bone graft material, membranes, abutments, and prosthetics.

Successful prosthetic and restorative treatment depends on artificial materials functioning as naturally as part of the body. But during packaging and storage, a material's surface gets thinly coated with airborne carbon compounds, turning it into a surface that repels water.

ACTILINK is an integrated solution that uses plasma energy right before treatment to activate the surface of key materials — implants, prosthetics, bone graft material — to their best possible condition, raising the quality of the entire treatment.

ACTILINK Core Technology

Implant Fixture
Activates the surface to create optimal hydrophilic conditions where blood adheres instead of beading off. This promotes bonding between bone and implant (osseointegration)faster and more strongly, contributing to a shorter treatment period and better long-term success rates.
Bone Graft Material
Maximizes the graft material's hydrophilicity so it absorbs blood and growth factors like a sponge. Improves graft stability and supports new bone formation for more predictable results.
Membrane
Activates the membrane surface to help early bonding with gum tissue and keep it stably in place. Contributes to faster gum healing and maintaining space for the graft material.
Abutment
Activates the abutment surface to help gum cells (fibroblasts) attach more effectively. Forms a dense gum barrierthat blocks bacterial invasion and contributes to long-term gum health.
Prosthetics (Zirconia · e.max · Hybrid Inlays)
Activates the surface of various prosthetics to increase bonding strength, reducing the chance of prosthetic detachment or micro-leakage.

So bone bonds strongly, gums wrap around healthily, and prosthetics bond without gaps — every material performs at its best.

02
Osseointegration

Implant Osseointegration —
why does the surface matter?

An implant only functions once it bonds directly with bone. When the surface is hydrophilic, blood spreads instantly, making it easier for proteins and cells to attach — favorable for initial stability and the osseointegration process.

Blood Wetting

Promotes cell attachment
Shorter Duration
Case-dependent expectation

The moment an implant is placed, what surrounds the surface isn't bone — it's blood. This blood needs to wet the surface evenly for the process of clotting, cell attachment, and new bone formation to proceed smoothly.

Seongmo Dental Clinic combines this with HDX Dentri 3D CT planning and in-house 3D-printed surgical guides, activating the surface with ACTILINK right before placement. After surgery, we manage force distribution with T-scan occlusal analysis.

Insufficient Bone

Cases requiring bone grafting
Increases the graft material's hydrophilicity so it rapidly absorbs blood and growth factors, contributing to stability at the graft site.
Posterior Maxilla · Thin Bone
Securing initial stability matters in demanding cases like sinus procedures or narrow bone width.
Risk Factors (Smoking, Diabetes, etc.)
Where healing may be slower, we build a tighter management plan alongside surface activation.

Even with the same implant, the bonding condition changes the outcome.

03
Soft tissue seal

Gum Barrier —
it determines implant longevity

When the abutment surface is activated, gum fibroblasts attach better, forming a dense soft-tissue barrier around the implant and reducing pathways for bacterial invasion.

Fibroblasts
Induces attachment
Blocks bacteria
Fewer micro-gaps
Prevents peri-implantitis
Long-term maintenance

Much of implant failure starts not with the bone, but with the gums. A gap between the abutment and gum lets bacteria in, progressing to peri-implantitis — and since pain isn't always distinct, it's often caught late.

Seongmo Dental Clinic creates favorable initial attachment conditions with surface activation, then regularly manages the surrounding condition with EMS PERIOFLOW® powder cleaning and Q-ray inflammation checks.

Maintenance Protocol

Regular Cleaning
The area around an implant is hard for instruments to reach, so we manage it with non-contact powder cleaning.
Inflammation Check
Q-ray fluorescence detects inflammation around the gums and implant early.
Occlusal Check
T-scan checks whether excessive force is being applied and adjusts it.

An implant is completed not just by the skill of placing it, but by the care that maintains it.

04
Bonding

Prosthetic Bonding —
to reduce detachment and micro-leakage

Activating the surface of zirconia, e.max, and hybrid inlays with plasma improves the cement's wettability, increasing bond strength and reducing the risk of prosthetic detachment and micro-leakage.

Bond Strength ↑
Better wettability
Micro-Leakage ↓
Lower secondary decay risk
Detachment ↓
Fewer re-bonding visits

When an inlay or crown falls off, it's usually not because the material broke — it's because the bonding interface failed. The bonding surface needs to be clean and highly wettable for the cement to spread evenly.

Seongmo Dental Clinic manages same-day prosthetic quality by milling with PrimeMill, sintering with SpeedFire, then activating the surface with ACTILINK right before seating.

Where This Fits in the Same-Day Prosthetic Workflow

Scan · Design
The prosthetic is designed from Primescan data.
Milling · Sintering
Milled with PrimeMill, then sintered and glazed with SpeedFire.
Surface Activation · Bonding
The surface is activated with ACTILINK, then bonded, with occlusion adjusted using T-scan.

One invisible interface determines a prosthetic's lifespan.

FAQ

Plasma Surface Activation — FAQ

Does surface activation make an implant bond faster?

A hydrophilic surface makes it easier for blood and cells to adhere closely, improving early bonding conditions. That said, actual healing speed varies by individual, depending on bone condition, overall health, and smoking status.

Is plasma applied directly to the patient?

No. ACTILINK treats the surface of materials used in treatment — implants, bone graft material, prosthetics — and is not applied directly inside the mouth.

Does the process take long and extend the appointment?

It's processed in-clinic in a short time right before treatment, so it doesn't significantly affect the overall appointment schedule.

Does it also help with prosthetic bonding?

It improves the surface wettability of zirconia, e.max, and hybrid inlays, helping stabilize the bonding interface. Seongmo Dental Clinic applies it right before seating same-day PrimeMill prosthetics.

Is there an additional charge?

Surface activation is part of the implant/prosthetic treatment process and is not billed as a separate item. Treatment costs are explained after diagnosis.

Is it applied to every implant case?

Whether to apply it depends on material characteristics and the case. It's especially meaningful for cases requiring bone grafting or with challenging gum conditions.
