A scan isn't an exam that ends in itself — it's the starting point for all digital fabrication. Seongmo Dental Clinic connects scan → design → milling → sintering → seating in-house, finishing a restoration within a day when the case allows.

Scan data is also overlaid with 3D CT data to plan implant placement position, and is used to print surgical guides and temporary crowns with our in-house 3D printer.

Isn't a 3D intraoral scan painful or uncomfortable?

It works by moving the scanner tip along the tooth surface to capture images, requiring no anesthesia or impression material. Without the process of biting down on material and waiting, gag reflex burden is greatly reduced.

Is scanning more accurate than a rubber impression?

Primescan captures millions of data points per second, reproducing even fine contours. With no material distortion or transport error, it's advantageous for improving prosthetic margin fit. That said, if there's gum bleeding or excess saliva, we address those conditions before scanning.

If I get scanned, can I get my restoration the same day?

Seongmo Dental Clinic has an in-house system that mills scan data with PrimeMill and sinters it with SpeedFire, so same-day restoration is possible when the case qualifies. Some cases may require an additional visit.

Does it emit radiation?

The intraoral scanner is an optical camera method and doesn't use radiation. When 3D bone structure diagnosis is needed, a separate low-dose 3D CT is taken.

Can it also be used for orthodontic or TMJ appliances?

The same scan data can be used to design clear aligners, TMJ splints, denture custom trays, and more. Seongmo Dental Clinic prints some of these devices directly with our in-house 3D printer.

Is scanning billed separately?

Scanning is performed as part of the relevant treatment process — prosthetics, orthodontics, implants, etc. Treatment costs vary by material and case, so we advise after diagnosis.
