"Just bite on articulating paper" — that alone can't tell you everything.
Now we see occlusion as data, down to 0.003 seconds
.
Seongmo Dental Clinic measures bite force, contact timing, and per-tooth load in real time with the T-scan digital occlusal analysis system. Timing sequence and force distribution that articulating paper can't show are visualized on a color graph, letting us manage the causes of tooth fracture, TMJ disorder, and implant failure with data.
Sungshin Univ. Seongmo Dental Clinic Digital Occlusal Analysis (T-scan)
Occlusion is the start and finish of every dental treatment. We check invisible forces with data.
Digital occlusal analysis —
what does it measure?
T-scan is a device that measures the force, contact order, and timing difference on each tooth when you bite down on a thin sensor — down to 0.003 seconds — and visualizes it on screen.
Occlusion is how your upper and lower teeth meet. Even a very slight imbalance can cause tooth fracture, TMJ disorder, implant failure, or a restoration coming loose. Traditionally, this was checked only with articulating paper (thin carbon paper), making it hard to know exactly how much force landed on which tooth, when, and in what order.
The T-scan Seongmo Dental Clinic uses measures bite force, contact timing, and per-tooth load in real time and visualizes it on screen. Occlusal problems that used to be invisible are now identified with data and resolved scientifically.
T-scan — Core Technology
Real-Time Bite Force & Timing Analysis
Precision Bite Adjustment for Implants & Restorations
Improved Precision in TMJ Treatment
Minimizes Tooth Reduction & Occlusal Adjustment
Diagnosing Bruxism (Grinding/Clenching)
Transparent Bite Consultation With the Patient
Resolving even invisible occlusal problems with data raises the long-term success rate of implant, restorative, and TMJ treatment.
Why a new restoration feels off —
it's usually the bite
If a restoration contacts before other teeth, or force concentrates on one spot, it can lead to sensitivity, fracture, loosening, or bone loss around an implant. T-scan checks this load as a number and adjusts accordingly.
Unlike a natural tooth, an implant can't absorb force through micro-movement. So excess load on an implant restoration can lead to a loose screw, restoration fracture, or bone loss around it.
Seongmo Dental Clinic checks occlusion with T-scan even after seating a same-day Primemill restoration. As much as scan and milling precision matter, the final bite adjustment is what determines the restoration's lifespan.
If you notice these symptoms
Sensitivity or pain after a new restoration
A restoration keeps chipping or coming loose
Gum swelling recurs around an implant
The final step of a restoration is occlusal adjustment.
TMJ and bruxism —
we look at the pattern of force
Occlusal imbalance places ongoing strain on the jaw joint and muscles. T-scan data becomes objective evidence for designing and adjusting a splint, and for deciding on Botox treatment.
Jaw stiffness in the morning, temple pain, or tooth sensitivity without decay can be caused by bruxism/clenching and occlusal overload.
Seongmo Dental Clinic checks force distribution with T-scan, fabricates splints/ARS with our in-house 3D printer, and if needed, reduces muscle strain with i-JECT B precision-dose Botox. We compare before and after with numbers to confirm the effect.
TMJ Treatment Flow

02 — Appliance or Botox
03 — Re-measure & Adjust
We turn adjustments once made by feel into adjustments made with data.
Occlusal Adjustment
That Removes Less Tooth
Knowing exactly where and how much to adjust as a number lets us refine only the necessary contact points instead of broadly grinding down tooth structure, preserving it.
Adjusting with articulating paper alone makes it hard to know whether every marked spot needs grinding, which can lead to over-adjusting a tooth more than necessary.
T-scan shows exactly where and in what order force concentrates, so balance can be achieved with minimal adjustment. Seongmo Dental Clinic runs this as part of our natural-tooth-preserving philosophy.

Restoration After Plasma Root Canal Treatment
Veneers & Esthetic Restorations
Finishing After Orthodontics
The best adjustment is the one that removes the least.
Articulating Paper vs. Digital Occlusal Analysis
| Comparison | Articulating Paper | Seongmo Dental Clinic T-scan |
|---|---|---|
| Information Shown | Contact Location | Location + Force + Order + Timing |
| Timing Analysis | Not possible | down to 0.003 seconds |
| Force Magnitude | Estimated | Quantified as a number |
| Left-Right Balance | Subjective judgment | Graph comparison |
| Verified Adjustment | Repeated checking | Instantly re-measured after adjustment |
| Explaining to the Patient | Verbal explanation | Reviewed together on screen |
Occlusion changes over time and with habits. Periodic reassessment may be needed.
Occlusal Analysis — Glossary
- Occlusion
- How and where the upper and lower teeth meet.
- Premature Contact
- A contact point that touches before others, concentrating force there.
- Occlusal Overload
- A state where excess force repeatedly lands on a specific tooth or restoration.
- Bruxism
- The habit of grinding or clenching teeth.
- Splint
- An appliance worn to manage occlusal and muscle strain.
- Peri-implantitis
- Inflammation of the gum/bone around an implant; excess occlusal load can be a risk factor.
Sungshin Univ. Digital Occlusal Analysis — FAQ
How is a T-scan exam done?
With a thin sensor between your teeth, you bite as you normally would, and the force and contact order on each tooth appear on screen in real time. There's no pain or radiation exposure.
Is it really different from adjusting with articulating paper?
Articulating paper only shows where teeth touch. T-scan also shows how hard and in what order, letting us pinpoint exactly where to adjust.
I have an implant — do I need an occlusal exam?
Unlike a natural tooth, an implant has little cushioning to absorb force, making it vulnerable to overload. Checking occlusion after placement and at regular checkups helps manage implant lifespan.
Does this help with bruxism treatment?
Occlusal overload patterns are checked with data as a basis for deciding on a night guard or Botox treatment, and before/after comparison is also possible.
Once adjusted, does it stay that way?
Occlusion can change with tooth wear, restoration changes, and habits. If symptoms appear, we re-measure and adjust.
What does the exam cost?
Coverage for exam and adjustment depends on the clinical context. See our non-covered fee guide for self-pay items, and we'll explain at diagnosis.

Results of any dental treatment can vary with individual oral condition, and whether a device applies depends on the case. Treatment method should be decided after a precise diagnosis and thorough consultation with your provider.
