What kind of device is it?

The Sonic CS+ is designed to sit right beside the treatment chair as a chairside dental-dedicated 3D printer. Seongmo Dental Clinic’s director personally designs from Primescan 3D scan data, and temporaries, implant surgical guides, TMJ splints, and custom trays are printed in-house the same day.

Dental clinics with a 3D printer are no longer rare. What matters is which printer, and what workflow, you use. A typical hobby/model-grade printer takes hours to print and lacks dental-material certification — the timeline ends up no better than sending the case to a lab. The Sonic CS+ is built for a chairside setting where printing must finish while the patient waits. With the small build plate (Mini Plate), a single restoration takes about 15 minutes, and even the standard plate builds at up to 100mm per hour.

Photopolymer resin’s viscosity and cure depth change with temperature. The Sonic CS+ heats both the chamber and the resin to hold a constant temperature throughout printing (25±5°C baseline), curing every layer from first to last under the same conditions.
Validated Resin Profiles — optimal settings built in per material
Certified resins for surgical guides, temporaries, splints, and more come with validated print profiles built into the device. Instead of trial-and-error each time the material changes, printing uses proven settings from the start.

Why 385nm

Why did we choose a printer using a 385nm light source?

A photopolymer 3D printer cures liquid resin layer by layer with light. Most printers on the market use a 405nm source. The Sonic CS+’s 385nm UV-A short wavelength penetrates the resin more evenly, giving precise control over cure depth. This is especially useful with viscous dental resins — layer boundaries stay sharp and shape distortion from over-curing is reduced.

For a surgical guide’s sleeve, the print must match the design data exactly — this is how digital precision carries all the way into the mouth.

An XY resolution of 22µm is 0.022mm, about 1/4 the thickness of a human hair. Layer height is chosen by use case at 50µm or 100µm — thinner for guides where precision matters, thicker for models where speed matters.

What We Print

What do we print in-house?

Temporaries — printed the same day, on the spot, right after your tooth is prepped
Printed immediately from the same-day prep scan data. Since it comes from the same design as the final restoration, the gum line and bite serve as a preview of the final restoration, reducing discomfort during the temporary-crown period.
Implant Surgical Guides — a template that carries the simulated surgery straight into the mouth
HDX Dentri 3D CT and Primescan data are registered to print a guide that directs implant position, angle, and depth to within 0.1mm. Surgery follows the planned coordinates exactly, avoiding at-risk structures like nerve canals and the sinus.
TMJ Splints & ARS — precision appliances for occlusal treatment
We print splints and anterior repositioning splints (ARS) used for bruxism and TMJ treatment, then verify contact points with T-scan digital bite analysis before fitting. If adjustment is needed, we revise the design and reprint.
Custom Trays & Diagnostic Models — for precise impressions and consultations
We print custom trays for denture fabrication and oral models for ortho/prosthetic consultations, letting us discuss the treatment plan with you over a physical model.

One thing we want to be clear about: final crowns and veneers are made not with the 3D printer but with our 5-axis wet mill and Speedfire. The printer handles resin-based appliances, the mill handles final restorations — that division of labor is how our in-house digital system is structured.

Post-Curing · CURE+

Printing isn’t the last step — CURE+ Post-Curing

A part fresh off the printer is a “semi-finished” piece with uncured resin still on its surface. It must go through post-curing under UV after washing before the material reaches its final strength and biocompatibility. Skip this step and even a perfectly printed part can’t go in the mouth.

Over-cure Prevention Profile

Our dedicated post-curing unit, CURE+, irradiates all three wavelengths — 365, 385, and 405nm — to fully react the photoinitiator regardless of resin type, and pairs this with 60°C heating to shorten cure time. Its flash-curing method (short pulsed exposure) prevents discoloration and warping from over-curing, while material-specific preset profiles reproduce the same quality every time.

What is the treatment sequence?

Everything from scanning to seating happens in-house. Depending on the case, the entire appliance can be made within a single visit.

LCD Photopolymerization (MSLA)
A 3D printing method that passes UV light through an LCD panel in the shape of each layer to cure liquid resin one layer at a time.

Layer Height

Q.Is a device made with a 3D printer as precise as one made by an outside lab?
Because it goes straight from scan data to print with no impression material or plaster model, there is no intermediate error. We print at 22µm XY resolution and always verify intraoral fit before seating.
Q.Can I really get a temporary the same day?
In most cases, yes. A single restoration takes only about 15 minutes to print, so washing and curing finish within the visit. The schedule may adjust if there are many units or depending on gum condition.
Q.Is the resin used for printing safe?
We use only certified dental-grade resins for each purpose, made under the manufacturer’s biocompatibility conditions via the device’s built-in validated profiles and CURE+ post-curing presets.
Q.Are final crowns also made with the 3D printer?
No. Final ceramic/zirconia restorations are made with our 5-axis wet mill and Speedfire. The printer handles resin-based appliances such as temporaries, guides, and splints.
Q.Is an implant surgical guide used for every case?
It’s decided based on bone condition, number of implants, and proximity to nerves/sinus. A guide is especially valuable when at-risk structures are close by or multiple implants are placed.
Q.What does it cost?
Cost varies by appliance type, material, and difficulty, and is a non-covered item. In-house printing does not add any separate equipment-usage fee. Pricing is provided after diagnosis based on our fee guide.
